"kandang" is a term used by local squid jigger to describe the location of squid gather and spawn. If anyone managed to find a "kandang", then the chances of getting large amounts of squid is very high. In the season between April and October , torak squid, jarum squid, and ketupat squid will approach the east coast to mate and lay eggs. Often the squid will choose the sand area because the area is more shallow and sunlight can get through the bottom of the sea. Enough sunlight can help squid eggs to hatch faster.After mating and spawning period,squid will eat very aggressive. Squid is already spawning often bite each other. There are three methods commonly used by local fishermen to find "kandang".
1. Reviewing by jigging- If there are
several pieces of squid successful catched, then the boat will be anchored.
2-find squid eggs - This method uses
large bait to crochet eggs on the sea bed.
The process is carried out several times. If there are eggs stuck, then
fishermen will perform the first process before the boat anchored. There is
also squid eggs detected when stuck on a boat anchor.
3-find squid jigger – this method is
more easier,the boat will move and approached the group of squid jigger being
gathered. If at night squid jigger group
easily detected by the presence of fluorescent lamps and sportlight
Each year, kandang will vary
according to the formation and the presence of sand on the seabed. However, the
position of kandang is not moving too
much..For a skilled fisherman, they can guess the location of kandang to be searched
