SQUID TYPE IN MALAYSIA

TORAK



This type of quid is mostly found on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. During nesting season, squid will be approaching the coast and unjam darat to spawn. According to the stories of fishermen, squid caught in the sea unjam larger size and length.To squid jigging, fishermen often find it spawn  area since early afternoon . Squid spawning area is known as the "kandang". If this area found, boat anchor will be anchored. Squid Jigging will be startfrom the evening till dawn. Lights using generator will be switch on  at night because, squid is quite active play lights. The brighter the lights, the more squid gathered under the boat.Local residents are more comfortable using "serek" for this squid jigging. For the most people, they prefer to use a fishing rod because they are not skilled to handle "serek". bait are used include prawn bait, fish bait and light bait.squid jigging  technique is more like menghenjut. For fish bait it is just enough to let in the bottom of the sea and checked occasionally. If squid strucked on the hook, the rod will feel  heavy. large squid were able to pull the line out of the reel or serek.When the squid approaches the surface, it will squirt water or black ink in order to escape. Keep in mind never pull it straight toward our face. Skew the line to avoid contact with squid ink.

Ketupat Squid has medium size. Its size is almost equal to jarum squid but more rounded body shape while jarum squid has a tapered body and length. Ketupat  Squid body color brighter than jarum squid that is darker. Ketupat squid always join jarum squid and torak squid. Many new squid jiggers  can not clearly distinguish between small torak squid and ketupat squid. Commonly ketupat squid has rhombic stomach shape and his body a little short. How he grabbed bait almost equaled to torak squid but not as strong as torak squid. Many ketupat squid caught using nets. If you go down to the sea for catch torak squid you will also get ketupat squid. On the east coast, especially Terengganu, ketupat squid are small and medium-sized cooked with glutinous rice and sweets. This popular dish known as ketupat sotong.

JARUM/CUMIT

Jarum squid are more like Torak squid, only smaller size. Jarum squid is more red colour than torak squid .when jigging torak squid, Jarum squid will intervene. sometimes the fishermen do not like this squid because jarum squid  is much smaller and cheaper. jarum Squid has always interrupt. Jarum squid can also find at seashore. Jarum squid is one of the preferred bait for fishing mangrove snapper and grouper. If there are many Jarum squid, lights will be installed and they can be captured only by using only scoop.Squid is also interested in the bait from angler. Although this squid like grabbing lures, it is quite difficult to catch because of the relatively small size. When less active period, we can feel this squid hold the lures and release back several times. If this happens opportunity to raise this Squid very slight.In terms of resistance, to catch this squid, appropriate use light action rod. In our fun fishing nor negligent about the ink.

NGABANG @ MABANG
 
ngabang Squid @ mabang Squid also known as Tigers squid in some places. The beauty Pattern of his body and it has nice taste is the main attraction for anglers. This Squid are usually fished using light action rod at  rocky islands and beaches.This squid like to live at coral. He was very active during the evening and night. Tides water also greatly affect his activeness. Full Moon is a bonus when hunting of this species. this squid usually caught up to a kilo at The beach. The size of this squid is able to reach up to 2 kilos each at unjam . Her round and plump give a very good fight if light action rod is used.This octopus caught using artificial bait shrimp. When the squid hold bait, put the rod straight. Never lock the reel. The locked reel can cause squid to escape. KATAK
 
The approximate physical of this squid is more like ngabang squid. Katak squid  bones thicker and larger than ngabang squid that have bones like plastic. This Squid is very lazy to move.his  Regional is far.If it struck the hook, this squid is almost no resistance. This Squid is also easy to miss because it has short tentacles. Due to its laziness, he always catch bait at the bottom of the sea.It taste is less good compared with other squid. The market price is also cheaper. This Squid ink usually more than the other squid.its difficult to catch this squid in large amounts because it is like to be alone and rarely move in groups. When the water receded, this squid bone can be seen scattered in coastal areas.

KURITA/OCTOPUS

octopus species inhabiting in muddy areas such as mangroves when the early stage.this  Squid are usually moving on its own. He foraging by hide and disguise. octopus body is more flexible than other squid. Squid can enter smaller holes and narrow to search food. It inhabits the holes left by crabs and coral structures. octopus is not commonly fished but there is also octopus caught using hook. It can be caught using a scoop amid the mangroves.  this squid is use as  bait for fishing. In Taiwan and China, octopus eaten alive.it’s to difficult to find it in these open waters because it like to disguise to confuse enemy same like background environment. Squid is also doing  clever imitation fish swim to avoid predators. In Malaysia it was used as fishing bait and salty octopus .
